Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation. We are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit which gives us the increased ability to practice our Catholic faith in every aspect of our lives and to witness Christ in every situation. The effect of the Sacrament of Confirmation is to give strength in faith. The Sacrament of Confirmation, within the Cathedral Parish, is offered to the Baptised Catholic child around the primary school level of year three or older.
St Patrick’s Cathedral Parish provides the opportunity for a family-based, Parish coordinated and Parish Schools supported Sacramental Program of preparation.

Reconciliation
This preparation program is for baptised Catholics around primary school year level 4 or older who have already celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is a requirement before preparing for and celebrating First Eucharist. The part 2 – (senior) program is the reconciliation program which takes place before the end of primary schooling and is available to year 5 or 6 children.
CONVERSION We recognise that we have hurt others or our environment and that by doing this we have hurt ourselves. We want to fix things up.
CONFESSION We admit our wrong choices to God through a priest. We make a plan to make things better; to heal the break. We make decisions that will help us make better choices in the future. Through the priest, God offers us forgiveness. We forgive ourselves.
CELEBRATION We celebrate God’s unconditional love for us. We rejoice in the healing – not only for ourselves but for all of our relationships.

Eucharist
The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church’s life…’ Catholic Catechism, taken from para. #1407
Eucharist is at the heart of our faith and is the Sacrament that completes the process of initiation into the Christian community.
Holy Communion (also known as Eucharist), comes from a Greek word meaning thanksgiving.
As Catholics we believe that in Holy Communion we are united in a special way with Jesus Christ. At his last supper, Jesus said of the bread that he shared among his followers: “Take and eat, this is my body.”
Within the Cathedral Parish, children baptised Catholic, in primary school year level 4 or older and who have celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation, may take part in the preparation program to celebrate First Eucharist.
